The Souls of Black Girls is a provocative news documentary that takes a critical look at media images-how they are instituted, established and controlled. The documentary also examines the relationship between the historical and existing media images of women of color and raises the question of whether they may be suffering from a self-image disorder as a result of trying to attain the standards of beauty that are celebrated in media images.

3 Stars Good to get moving inside
This video is okay. My kids (3 and 23 mos.) like it, but don’t love it. It is a good way to get them moving inside.
5 Stars Great Video
I was originally looking for a dance video for my 2 1/2 yr old. I came across this and its great fun. It’s perfect for those rainy days when the kids cant get outside and burn off some energy. I even do it with her and my 8 yr old son and we all enjoy it.
5 Stars Awesome video!!!!!
If I could give it more stars, I would. My daughter (age 2) absolutely loves this video and begs to watch it over and over. It really gets her moving. It’s easy to follow. It’s also a lot of FUN! I can do it along with her. I highly recommend this video. I bought others and none were as good as this - not even close.
5 Stars fun for toddlers
I bought this video when my daughter was 2, she is now 3 1/2 & still loves to move & grove! Though I think over the age of 5 kids would be bored. It’s best suited for toddlers & pre-k children.
5 Stars Good Activity
My son is 4 & we usually do this together although he will do it alone. His favorite part is where the kids leap over the teacher because he gets me on the floor and leaps over my legs. First time we tried the 26min DVD he lost interest after 23min, but not now. We enjoy doing the creative movements and dance together. The moves are very simple (you could come up with it all yourself but who has the time?)… you get as much out of it as you put into it. Fun being silly while my son is still little enough to think mom is cool!
Fat Blasting Yoga
April 27, 2009 by Self Confidence · Leave a Comment

This well-designed program combines fast-paced yoga moves for fat-burning, hatha yoga poses for strength and flexibility, and stability ball exercises for core conditioning in three segments that can be done in one 60-minute session, or separately. Segment 1 builds patterns based on strong yoga poses such as the Warrior and Balancing Stick, adding lifts and lunges at a fast pace so that you’re breathing faster and working the muscles simultaneously. Segment 2 is strength training by holding poses. Segment 3 focuses on core strength with a stability ball. Some familiarity with yoga is helpful–Austin doesn’t give much instruction about breathing or the fine points of the poses–but not required. Although Austin talks nonstop, as always, her voice is quieter than usual and more fitting for this workout. (The repetitive, rhythmic music, however, is distracting rather than supportive.) Recommended for intermediate exercisers because no modifications are shown, and many of the poses are challenging. –Joan Price

4 Stars Denise Austin: Fat Burning Yoga-21 days to a yoga body. It does work!
Denise Austin’s Fat Burning Yoga-21 days to a yoga body is the first Yoga DVD of Denise Austin’s that I have ever used. In fact it is the first yoga DVD and first Denise Austin DVD I have ever used and I must say I am impressed. Yes, she does go very fast and yes that music and her constantly talking is kind of annoying. However I am on the second week of using this DVD and I have already lost 10 pounds, however if you’re using this DVD to get fit or loose weight then you can’t just use this DVD and not do anything else. On the side of using this DVD I have been riding 5-6 miles on a bike, changed my eating habbits and stopped drinking soda. This DVD works great as long as you do other things to help you loose weight as well. I bought this DVD to help me get back into shape and to stay in shape and I am satisfied with it. I will be buying more Denise Austin work out DVD’s after I’m finished with the 21 days to give me more of a variety when I work out since when you start working out you can’t just stop when you reach your weight goal. It is something you have to keep on doing.
5 Stars My Favorite
I’ve owned this video since 2002 and it’s still my favorite. The 30 minute work out really works the legs and goes by fast. You can feel it the next day. I have the VHS version and need to upgrade to DVD because I’ve pretty much worn mine out. This makes a great addition to an exercise library.
5 Stars Excellent!!
I love Denise Austin’s workout videos, and this one has been really great for me! I like how positive Denise is, always encouraging and supporting. This video was my first experience with yoga, so first I just watched it through and practiced the moves - it’s very important in yoga that the moves are done correctly or you can hurt yourself. Once you get the moves down it’s a really fun way to get cardio as well as strength training!
5 Stars That Was Some Workout
I brought the tape in late 2003 and in fact it was my very first exercise tape ever and my first time trying yoga because since Madonna brought it to mainstream I always been curious about it. When I first started doing it I was hooked. I even memorized the moves by myself and performed them WITHOUT the tape. I definely lost some weight by doing this and other exercises. I recommend this tape or DVD to anybody who loves yoga and is a fan of Denise Austin
5 Stars She Talks A lot but A Great DVD
I really like Denise Austin and she is a great motivator. She may talk a little much but this DVD is great!! I am in between beginner and intermediate level and this dvd is challenging and effective. It is split up into three sections which is nice so if you dont have time to do the whole thing, doing one or two sections will still give you a good workout. The first segment is my favorite because I love sun salutations and the moves she demonstrates really warms up the body and tones your legs and butt!! I have been doing this for about two and a half weeks and notice my legs and arms are tighter. God Bless Yoga!!
The New Adventures of Old Christine The Complete First Season

The New Adventures of Old Christine The Complete First Season

Putting an end to the so-called “Seinfeld curse,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars in her own hilarious 2006 television sit-com as a divorced single mother struggling to raise a child while fighting her own insecurities. The series opens with Christine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) having recently enrolled her young son Ritchie (Trevor Gagnon) in an exclusive private school and feeling uncomfortably aware that she doesn’t fit in with the other moms. Christine’s ex-husband Richard (Clark Gregg) doesn’t make things any easier when he shows up with his new girlfriend, also named Christine (Emily Rutherfurd), whom Christine doesn’t even know exists, and things get even worse when the new girlfriend is quickly dubbed “New Christine” leaving Christine with the distasteful moniker “Old Christine.” Even Ritchie senses that things are different at his new school on the first day, blurting out “where are the black kids?” in front of his horrified mother. Thus begin 13 episodes of pure comic fun in which basically good, likeable, yet invariably flawed characters seem destined to blurt out those socially unacceptable thoughts that often run through a person’s head as they struggle to fit in and build meaningful relationships with each other. Whether Old Christine is trying to rid the world of prejudice, satisfy her own sexual needs, dating a man who wants more commitment than she can offer, trying to live up to the impossible standards of the meanie moms at school, maintain a friendship with her ex-husband, or just do the best job that she can raising her son, she can always be counted upon to do or say the absolute wrong thing and get herself into one uncomfortable situation after another. What makes it all so side-splittingly funny, besides the amazing comic delivery of each and every actor, is the great writing that ensures viewers can relate on a fundamental level to Christine’s every predicament. Special features include unaired scenes, a blooper reel, and a 17-minute “The Real Christine” featurette with interview footage of all the major characters as well as show creator Kari Lizer, writer Katie Palmer, director Andy Ackerman, and co-executive producer Adam Barr. –Tami Horiuchi

2 Stars Really Disappointing
A few minutes ago, I finished watching an Episode of this Season 1 or Season 2 Series on TV…it was VERY LAME and very SIMPLEMINDED. I can’t see why anyone would PAY to OWN these Series. To each their own; but I saw nothing AT ALL Exceptional about this Series. It’s bearable but SO UNSPECIAL!
Personally, I’m not wasting my money on it…AND…it makes me think Very twice about going by Amazon Ratings.
5 Stars Unfailingly funny!
Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Christine Campbell, a single mom trying to balance son Ritchie and her women’s-only gym, while dealing with ex-husband Ritchard (Clark Gregg) and his new girlfriend (Emily Rutherfurd), also named Christine. Added to the mix are Christine’s womanizing brother Matthew (Hamish Linklater), who lives with her, and acerbic best friend Barb (Wanda Sykes).
Season 1 includes such classic episodes as the pilot, where Christine meets the “meanie moms” at Ritchie’s new private school; “The Other F Word,” where Christine crusades for diversity at Ritchie’s homogenous school only to make a shocking discovery; and “Long Day’s Journey into Stan,” which introduces the infamous recurring “Sad Dad.”
If you’ve never watched this comedy, give it a try; it’s soon guaranteed to become a favorite!
5 Stars The New Adventures of Old Christine Season 1 & 2
I love this show and was thrilled when it came out on DVD. I have Season 1 & 2 and can’t hardley wait until season 3 appears. I am married, but you can see how some of these issues with single parenting are all around and the cast is great. They are all very funny and pull it off well. Christine’s friend Barb usually only says a couple words, but is hysterical. Got to say I love the show.
4 Stars Old Christine is my new favorite
The New Adventures of Old Christine has been a weekly favorite of mine since it began. I’ve never purchased an entire tv series’ DVDs before but Christine’s a keeper & I plan to collect each season. In season 1, you’re introduced to each of the characters, a huge handful of hilarious flaws Christine lives with on a daily basis, and you’ll probably find something in each episode that makes you realize you might be a little more like Old Christine than you’d like to admit… I enjoy the performances of every single cast member of this show, immensely - from Julia’s (old Christine) amazing talent for scripted and physical comedy, to Hamish’s (Matthew) low-key wit that is the perfect compliment to Christine’s frenzied insanity. The only thing better than this first season is the fact that with each additional season the entire show just gets better and better.
5 Stars Very, very funny!
I was searching for a new show and “The new adventures of old Christine” was on sale on Amazon.com. I don’t live in the US and I have never heard about it however, I decided to buy it. The pilot episode is not so good but the second one is very funny. I kept watching it and I discovered that it is a very, very funny show. My favorite episodes are number 12 “Some of my Best Friends are Portuguese” and 13 “A Fair to Remember”, they are hilarious. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and all the cast are doing a great job!
Phat Girlz
April 27, 2009 by Self Confidence · Leave a Comment

Tart, talented, and plus-size, Jazmin (Mo’Nique, The Parkers) lives in a world that insults and rejects her because she’s fat–or is the emotional abuse she heaps on herself the real problem? A department store employee with fashion designer dreams, Jazmin flounders until she wins a Palm Springs vacation and meets a handsome Nigerian doctor named Tunde who cherishes a full figure as a mark of beauty. But can Jazmin overcome her self-loathing and accept Tunde’s love? This plot summary doesn’t capture the freewheeling style of Phat Girlz, a low-budget feature that proves that slick production values can’t compare with spunky rhythmic editing, rough and ready wit, and an honest heart. The movies takes some broad but accurate shots at American culture’s crazed body fascism (though the unchivalrous might point out that the movie’s male romantic objects all have a pretty studly physique). Mo’Nique throws herself into her part, capturing the mix of self-deprecating humor and bitter anger that many heavy women turn brutally on themselves. Phat Girlz may end up as a fairy tale, but along the way it delves into the sharp, dark edges that make a happy ending well-earned. –Bret Fetzer

5 Stars Phat Girlz
Monique and Jimmy Jean-Louis do an outstanding job together and actually the whole cast was phenomenal! I hope more comedies come out as good as this one!!!
4 Stars Funny!
I think this film is funny, but I must say a little bit unreal. It is like she wants to make every girl fat? that is not even healthy! but I do believe we all are beautiful and it doesnt matter if youre fat or skinny how you feel is what you will reflect.
3 Stars I Hate Skinny B*tches Too!
Phat Girlz is a hard film to hate because it comes from a genuinely real and unique perspective. It is also a great task to defend for being of such poor production quality and having jokes that miss more often than not. My wife informed me that she would no longer read my reviews if I didn’t take her suggestion to see Phat Girlz and review it seriously. I initially did not want to sit through it but upon further consideration my wife sat through my silent horror movie phase, so I owed her one. Film is one of the few things we don’t share the same level of appreciation for. Besides, I’ve always taken some pride in watching and reviewing a share of notoriously bad films.
Anyway, Phat Girlz is produced and directed by virtual unknowns and it sort of shows. That’s actually being very kind. The film is primarily a vehicle for actress/comedian Mo’Nique Imes, better known as just Mo’Nique. I have no doubt that she influenced this film in every way creatively, for better or worse. She plays the film’s protagonist Jazmin, an overweight would-be fashion designer whose awkward attitude about her own weight and resentment to those around her (particularly skinny girls), make for an interesting viewpoint although it does wear out its welcome by the film’s conclusion.
The internet movie database indicates this film as among its bottom 100. I don’t think that’s a fair assessment but the film is definitely not very good. I hardly think the morality behind Mo’Nique’s film was taken into the same consideration by the mobocracy on that site as it is here. Again, I’m rating this down based primarily on the production quality and the fact that the jokes don’t work as often as intended. The film gains two stars because it means well and has a different voice.
5 Stars Inspiring
The movie is one that will help build a young woman’s self-esteem. Talks about self-love.
5 Stars Seriously good fun
I really enjoyed this film, not only for the message it gave but also, as a Nigerian, I was in stitches for the poolside banter.
I find Mo’nique a very good actress and she delivers her lines with comic timing. I found her character very believeable but also I think she as a woman would be a great friend to have in your life.

5 Stars The Rainmaker
I ordered this movie because it is one of my all time favorites dating back to the days when Hollywood really had STARS. No high school dancing, no changing into super heroes, a story line easy to follow and a happy ending for one and all.
5 Stars Burt & Kate
N. Richard Nash adapted his own work for this perfect screen version of his hit Broadway play, later a musical (110 IN THE SHADE).
Directed by Joseph Anthony, the 1956 film tells the story of a ranching family in the drought-stricken American Southwest of the 1930s, and how their lives are changed one night when a travelling con-man comes knocking on their door, offering to bring them rain for one hundred dollars.
Burt Lancaster, in what is certainly a warm-up for his Oscar-winning performance in ELMER GANTRY, is superb as the fast-talking con-man who wants nothing more from life than to produce “one little miracle,” and Katharine Hepburn is absolutely brilliant as the “plain” spinster daughter of the ranching family who does not trust Lancaster, but is, ultimately, won over by his charms.
Lloyd Bridges and Earl Holliman play Hepburn’s brothers, Cameron Prud’homme is the patriarch of the family and Wendell Corey is cast as the town’s deputy sheriff who is smitten with Hepburn, but too frightened to do anything about it.
This is a truly charming romantic comedy that has lost none of its luster over the years.

5 Stars First Time Felon Review
This is a beautiful movie with a true life experience from regular people like the ones we are dealing with every day of our lives. That’s a great movie with a great lesson. Thanks.
1 Star I never recieved the FIRST TIME FELON DVD.
It is now more than one month I have not recieved the First Time Felon DVD. It is either my money back or AMAZON & PAYPAL to find another seller to send for me a new DVD.
Thank you.
5 Stars First Time Felon Delivers!
I have to admit, from the first time my uncle introduced me to this movie I was HOOKED! Watching it over a second time, the movie never fails to disappoint! Omar Epps and Anthony “Treach” Criss both deliver their best performances in their careers to date. The best part of the movie for me was when the boot camp inmates had to help the town. It showed me that even in the face of adversity, people from all walks of life can come together and overcome any obstacle and circumstance, no matter how heavy they may be. This movie was so good I damn near cried.
4 Stars An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of prison
First Time Felon shows us that it doesn’t seem like enough for society for someone to pay their fines and do their time–we want to punish them for life for a crime they might have commited when they were young and dumb. In this way we “label” and “stigmatize” and drive people into adopting a Master Status of “criminal” or “loser.” The movie also shows how hard it is to get out of a “birds of a feather” lifestyle when someone is released from prison and has to go right back to where they learned and practiced their criminal craft. Omar Epps and Delroy Lindo have a “pivotal moment” in one scene which I think is the best in the movie. I’m not crazy about the sub-plot of Delroy Lindo’s character and think that could have been written or handled more effectively. I also think the atmosphere in the local jail (where Charles Dutton briefly appears as one of the gang leaders) is a bit overdone. All in all however, this is a good movie. It is instructional for teenagers and doesn’t have a fairy tale ending. Fairy tale endings are happiness without struggle. Greg Yance, the real life person’s life who this movie is based on, did finally get his chance but many don’t. Perseverance is the message. Unfortunately, in today’s economy and with many receiving such inferior educations, a lot of former inmates aren’t going to find as happy an ending as Yance did. If this movie helps one person see that if we help others find meaningful employment then we help our whole society, it will be worthwhile. However, it would be even better to help someone BEFORE they end up in prison. Good flick. Watch it with a teenager.
5 Stars Excellent Movie… You wont be sorry that you spent time watching it.
This is a type of movie someone usually looks at on the shelf and then passes it up for something else because they’ve never heard of it and it isnt one of those highly advertised block busters. If you fall in that category and cant make up your mind about spending a little money and time on this movie… stop thinking and go for it! You wont be sorry. This is a VERY good movie especially if you like heart warming and inspirational themes.
Basically, this movie is about a young adult(Age between 17 and 21) that gets into trouble for selling drugs. He is given the choice of going to jail for five years or going to a military style boot camp for I think three months…. Of course he chooses the bootcamp. The movie shows a great example of how behavioral bootcamps are ran. The bootcamp part of the movie takes up only half of the play time though. The other half shows the struggles of how hard it is to go back to the same problematic environment and use what was learned and how easily it is to fall back into old behaviors due to poverty and lack of opportunity due to being a felon. For example, it shows how hard it is to get a “second chance” in the job market being a ex-convict.
I agree with the past posters that this movie would be great to show in an educational setting especially college…. maybe even a high school psychology/sociology class. With that said dont take that as this movie being like a documentary… its not. With out a doubt this can be watched for just pure entertainment.
So give this a try if you can’t make up your mind. Again you wont be sorry.

5 Stars Great Barbie DVD
It’s a little mature for the typical Barbie crowd. I bought it for my four year old daughter, and I was taken aback a bit by the more mature themes represented on the DVD (high school, Fall Formals, crushing on the cutest guy in school, etc). But I actually like the DVD myself. It’s sweet, and has great music throughout by Skye Sweetnam. My daughter watches it with me, and we discuss things she doesn’t understand. She also loves the music. But, once again, it would have been nice to have a bit more of a head’s up on the actual content.
5 Stars Great for all ages
Personally thought this was a great film, most young girls or teens can relate to
The graphics are probably the best yet out of the rest of the barbie movies
I also did not think that the movie was too mature for young audiences as a previous reviewer stated
The scene when Kevin commented on the girls hugging wasn’t in any way, shape or form meant to be crude
Anyone should be able to see, that Kevin only tries to find ways to be get barbie to realize how much he loves her.
It saddens me, to see that someone could have such a negative outlook over such innocent emotions
I suppose it’s because of reviews like that, why television cencors everything now days
1 Star A 13 year old’s point of view…
I was about 11 or 12 when this came out. So I’ve already been exposed to similar things like Lizzie Mcguire (sp?) and Mean Girls. I think this was on that road, just notched down a few levels. I was fine with the movie, but I’m getting kind of tired of this:
A girl, has guy friend, guy friend likes girl, girl likes popular guy, mean girls try to ruin her life, girl is friendly and smart, girl wants to be popular and forgets about her real friends, she realized her mistake and learns her lesson.
I love Barbie, I always have. My friend and I secretly play when we go to each other’s houses. Honestly, I think most of the girls at school still play with dolls. But I dont think its right for little kids. For example, when I used to watch Lizzie when I was about 7, my Dad thought it was a good lesson for kids. Yes, but I was too young. Lizzie would say how “embarrassing” her parents were. I used to get mad at this. If the thought of my parents being embarassed ever crossed my mind, I would feel so guilty I couldnt stand it. I think until kids get older, they dont understand the movies/shows. Its too far over their heads. And they think of Barbie their role model, and copy her. If they copy these phrases, they will think its ok, and say mean stuff. They will say they hate people, and they want to be popular. Why does it matter? If you want to be popular, go do some acting and become famous. There. Your popular. Everybody at my school is popular. Why? BECAUSE EVERYBODY KNOWS WHO YOU ARE. The pretty girls dont get much more attention than everybody else. Everybody knew me, and I was a goody 2 shoes smarty. And in High School, you dont have these problems. There are teen pregnancies and other things instead. This is more Middle School based.
I know my friend’s little 4 year old sister has learned from her big sister stuff like “That’s stupid.” or “These toys are all mine and you cant have any.” I notice when I go to family get togethers, when my cousins and I are talking, the younger cousins always repeat stuff we say. And not everything my cousins say is good.
All in all, the movie was good, but not for young kids.
5 Stars Great Movie
Honestly, I like ALL the Barbie movies. They are a little cheezy and have fun story lines that anyone can enjoy.
But this one is differnt. First of all, it has a GREAT soundtrack! I absolutely love the music. I’m 26 years old and would have the songs on my playlist and no one would ever know it was from a Barbie movie if they hadn’t seen it.
This movie is geared toward older kids, but my younger kids love it as well. I also like the movie. Having to on occasion watch a movie 20 times in a row, having a movie you can enjoy can really help ease the pain of repetitive movies.
The story line is a lot better than some of the fantasy based ones. The dialog is fun and more mature.
All in all, great movie!
5 Stars This movie is so cute
I have this movie and I really love it!It is about three girls Barbie,Courtney and Tia that are best friends. One day they go to the mall to find Barbie a outfit for her to go to the dance with her most wished date,Todd. And the salesman lady gives the three of them charm bracelets and Barbie’s bracelet comes with a a magical diary. And that’s how the whole stories starts it is so adorable!I could tell you the whole story but I think it’s better for you to watch for yourself and find out.It is worth buying, trust me.

5 Stars My childhood back!
The dvd is worth buying just for the old tv show of Aladdin and the little mermaid. They use to be my favorite shows to watch. My favorite Aladdin episode when I was a kid just happened to be the one where Jasmin turned into the snake. I thought it was amazing and still do. I was never scared by it and was 4 when the tv show originally aired. Kids today just have no spine that why they get stuck with shows like the new adventures od winniw the pooh, the wiggles and fenis and ferb and whatever else they have. I miss Old winnie the pooh, scooby doo, the oiginal power rangers, Thundercats, the animated batman series, ahhh real monster, as told by ginger, so werid, are you afraid of the dark and so many other good shows from my childhood. Children and Disney movies have gone down so much in my opinion and most other people born in the 80’s and 90’s. so thanks for bring classic disney back! I really hope they realse the old Aladdin tv show on dvd!
1 Star Terrible Stories, Awful Animation
There is absolutely nothing to recommend about this video. It’s the worse kind of Disney bottom budget Cash-In. They simply repackaged a few awful made-for-TV episodes that are too scary for younger viewers and too boring for older kids.
This DVD contains a few Disney Princess stories that were obviously culled from the early 90’s Disney Channel made-for-TV episodes. The animation is terrible - nothing like the movies, and even the colors of some of the characters are wrong. The quality of the artwork on the cover of the DVD is MUCH better than the animation on the DVD itself.
The stories themselves are horrific. One has Ariel unable to laugh while evil blowfish cast spells on her companions. Then, there’s a completely abridged version of Cinderella - using the movie’s footage, it tells the whole story in about 5 minutes. The Jasmine / Aladdin story is atrocious. Besides the usual Disney Channel made-for-TV slipshod animation, you have Jasmine being turned into a scary snake and a bunch of bandits robbing them at knife point while Aladdin is drowning (!!!).
The so-awful-it’s-funny part of the DVD is the hacked together “intros” to each segment which are performed by Ariel, Cinderella, and Jasmine. The animators took what looks like 15 frames of the character’s mouths moving (culled from some scene in the actual theatrical releases), and played them in a loop, and then just dubbed audio over it. No attempt is made to match their mouths to the audio that you hear. A real low rate hack job. I’ve seen better attempts on YouTube.
1 Star Not age appropriate for anyone under 12!
The Jasmine story on this is so inappropriate for anyone under 12! She turns into this evil snake-like creature and I was so mortified when I watched it. Shame on the people who were in charge of putting this together! In fact, I think I’m going to send a letter to corporate. I would give this no stars but the Amazon rating system won’t let me.
2 Stars Not good
i’m sorry to say that this is not a good video. they rushed to make it and it did not entertain my daughter. she is 17 months. the other disney videos are better. this one only had shots of cinderella, not the actual cinderella character.
5 Stars My daughter loves it!
I bought this as a 5th birthday present for my daughter, and she loves it! She watches it quite often.
